Some of the most meaningful community projects begin with a simple idea: a need that should be addressed, an opportunity worth pursuing, or a vision for making Freeborn County an even better place to live, work, learn, and belong.
The Albert Lea–Freeborn County Chamber Foundation helps bring those ideas to life.
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with the Albert Lea–Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, the Foundation supports initiatives that advance education, leadership, accessibility, community well-being, and quality of life throughout Freeborn County.
The Foundation serves as a trusted steward of charitable funds and a collaborative partner for individuals, organizations, and community groups working toward a qualified nonprofit purpose.
Our Mission
The Albert Lea–Freeborn County Chamber Foundation shall act as the steward of donated funds, promote philanthropy, and collaborate for community betterment.

How the Foundation Serves Freeborn County
The Foundation provides a charitable pathway for projects, programs, and community initiatives that align with an eligible nonprofit purpose.
This may include initiatives focused on:
- Education and lifelong learning
- Leadership and civic engagement
- Workforce and community development
- Accessibility and inclusion
- Healthy aging and community well-being
- Youth and family opportunities
- Public spaces and recreational amenities

The Foundation may also serve as a fiscal agent for qualifying individuals, organizations, or community groups that are leading a charitable initiative but do not have their own nonprofit status.
Through this role, the Foundation can help receive and steward donations, maintain appropriate financial oversight, and support initiatives that serve a charitable, educational, scientific, or literary purpose.

Over the years, the Chamber Foundation has helped support projects and programs that respond to local needs, strengthen community connections, and improve quality of life.
The following initiatives are examples of the important work made possible through the Foundation.
All-Inclusive Playground and Miracle Field
Every child and family should have the opportunity to play, participate, and feel included.
The All-Inclusive Playground and Miracle Field initiative supports the development of accessible recreational spaces designed for children and community members of varying ages and abilities.
By reducing physical and social barriers to participation, these spaces create opportunities for recreation, connection, confidence, and belonging.
The project represents what can happen when families, businesses, donors, volunteers, and community organizations come together around a shared vision of inclusion.
Age-Friendly Freeborn County
Age-Friendly Freeborn County brings community members and organizations together to help ensure that Freeborn County remains a welcoming and supportive place for people of all ages.
The initiative explores how transportation, housing, communication, social connection, health, public spaces, and community services affect people’s ability to remain active and engaged as they age.
Through collaboration, education, and community input, Age-Friendly Freeborn County works to identify opportunities and advance solutions that help residents live safely, independently, and meaningfully in the communities they call home.
Ready to Serve Freeborn
Ready to Serve Freeborn, also known as Chamber Leadership 2.0, helps prepare community members to take the next step in civic and community leadership.
The program is designed for individuals who want to use their experience, talents, and relationships to serve Freeborn County through nonprofit organizations, boards of directors, commissions, public service, volunteer leadership, and other community roles.
Participants learn more about the responsibilities of service, effective governance, community decision-making, and the many ways individuals can make a meaningful local contribution.
Ready to Serve Freeborn helps transform leadership development into leadership action—building a stronger pipeline of informed, prepared, and engaged community leaders.
Supporting Ideas Across Our Community
These programs represent only a portion of the work supported through the Chamber Foundation.
The Foundation has served as a charitable home and collaborative partner for many other initiatives led by residents, volunteers, businesses, service organizations, and community groups.
Some initiatives respond to an immediate community need. Others help launch a new program, improve a public resource, create an educational opportunity, or bring people together around a long-term goal.
What they share is a commitment to making Albert Lea and Freeborn County stronger.
As community needs and opportunities evolve, the Foundation remains ready to help local leaders explore new ideas, build partnerships, and create positive, lasting impact.
Have a Community Project in Mind?
A strong idea does not always begin inside an established nonprofit organization.
The Chamber Foundation may be able to provide fiscal sponsorship or administrative support for qualifying charitable projects that do not have their own 501(c)(3) status.
Projects considered for Foundation support must have an appropriate charitable, educational, scientific, or literary purpose and must align with the Foundation’s mission and legal responsibilities.
Foundation support is not automatic. Proposed projects must be reviewed and approved to ensure that they meet the necessary charitable, financial, administrative, and organizational requirements.
The Chamber and the Chamber Foundation
The Albert Lea–Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and the Albert Lea–Freeborn County Chamber Foundation are affiliated organizations with complementary roles.
The Chamber is a membership organization focused on championing businesses, creating connections, developing leaders, and supporting a strong local economy.
The Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports qualifying programs and initiatives created for charitable and public-benefit purposes.
Together, the two organizations help strengthen both the business community and the broader Freeborn County community.
